Cooler today which was nice as we cruised from Clifton to Aqua Yacht. Amazing how they allow homes to be built right on the edge of the cliffs and bluffs overlooking the Tennessee River. Clifton was very nice, protected harbor, good food, live music. We ended up 7:30 hours today due to a delay at the Pickwick Lock to get a disabled boat in the lock with us - cooler temps made it easier on the dogs. Rain for 3 hours of todays run but still nice on the river. We have our first covered slip and this is home for a month hoping and praying for an opening in Demopolis on the hard deck. 

The Ark on the Clifton transient dock - had dinner with 3 other looper boats.

Clifton has flooded the last 3 years - the pole Lez is standing next to is to hold the docks when they float up with the flood waters - apparently got within a foot or so in 2019.

By the time you could read Clifton marina on the tanks you were past the marina - glad for good electronics.

Tremendous number of beautiful homes line the River and the lakes - along with trailer parks and a lot of new construction. Less barge traffic here but still enough to keep you on your toes.

As we got closer to the Pickwick dam the current got stronger - peaked around 4 mph.

Pickwick Lock and dam - 2 lock chambers, dam and hydroelectric plant. They alternate power generation with the Kentucky dam - one at night and the other during the day - water levels in this pool go up and down 2 feet each day.

Aqua is a huge marina about a mile in off of Pickwick Lake - we have our first covered slip - nice!

We waited out the rain and low visibility at George Kemp and it was the right choice. We were able to run on plane all day and got into Grand Marais early. Visited looper friends Terry and Connie who we met during our time at Kingfisher Bay in Demopolis, AL. 8/27 we had more wind than predicted but we were still able to run on plane and got into Marquette about noon just as the wind was picking up steam. Leaving George Kemp at sunrise - helped off the dock by Scott - skipper of the Jenna Lou II that was docked very close to us in Ashland for a year - they are just starting their loop and we wish them smooth cruising and a great time! Looking at the Too locks from the down stream side. We got to Ashland marina 9/1 - 3 wind days in Houghton and then a one day calm window - 142 miles. Predawn dog walk - zero wind. Looking back East from the dock in Houghton at sunrise. Ready to leave on our last travel day before home dock. Off the dock 7 AM Eastern. Beautiful morning heading out the Keewenaw canal. The big pond was calm most of the way. Porcupine Mountain ski area. Copper Peak ski flying Some times there was zero wind and others we got up to about 1.5 foot waves. John was with us on the Ark when we left Ashland 8/15/21 - escort boat in 9/1/22. Stopped for a photo about 2 PM Central time - 142 miles 8 hours - included a stop for fuel and a dog walk at Saxon Harbor Ocky droned us but I can't find the drone pictures. Looking like we'll be in Demopolis for another week.

 Foot infection has us slowed down and with the weather/flood window closing it looks like we will celebrate Easter in Demopolis. Looking like rain and rapidly rising river for the next few days. Our friends the Gandy's in Jackson MS got Lez set up to see a Dr there tomorrow - foot finally looking a bit better but we don't want to risk trouble 200 miles from medical care on the river. The marina workers were busy this afternoon trying to corner a 5-6 foot water moccasin under our dock - my advice was to eliminate with extreme prejudice. These critters are all over and try to nest in every nook and cranny. Just under 1" long. We are both double aces taking out over 10 enemy aircraft apiece.  They have a nice pool here and are working every day with the landscaping. Roses are coming into bloom.
