We changed razors and they were thick with black algae. Engines ran well all day - getting really good fuel efficiency withthwe 10 mph speed limit but it makes for a long day. We had a nine minute lock on 8/8 for the best and an hour on 8/9 for the slowest lock.

We are now stripped down to as low as we can go and are praying we get under the fixed bridges.

8/9 Nebo

No setbacks for buildings on the Erie canal.

We locked down in 21 and 22.

First down lock of the canal

Some have really rough concrete walls.

Suction dredge.

Piping for the dredge

Lots of very tiny working tugs.

NY and Canal System flags.

Some have smooth but grimy steel veneer over the concrete.

When they release the water in the lock it boils out the low end.

On and off rain but lots of clear and calm too.

Right on and at times overhanging the canal.

Little Falls

40 foot lift and a guillotine type closure behind us.

Work hydro plant

#17

Closing behind us in 17.

Ditto

Sometimes it is hard to see where you are going to enter - especially #17 going into the chamber from the East.

Lots of rain along the way too.

Sometimes arrow straight for 10+ miles.

Amazing feat to finish in 1825.

Sunrise on 8/9 in St Johnsville.
